ACCESS4ALL Course Coordinator Center for Sustainable Development (CSD)

Job type: Contractual (3 Months)

Working Hours: 10 Hours Per Week

Salary: Negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

About the Project: ACCESS4ALL is a joint initiative between the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB),  BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University (BRAC JPGSPH), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Maastricht University (UM) and Heidelberg University(UH), funded by the European Union under their Erasmus+ CBHE Program. It is a transformative initiative dedicated to empowering the Global South with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Traditionally, climate change strategies and educational programs have been dominated by top-down, Northern-led approaches, which has led to a significant gap in contextual knowledge and practical green skills in the regions that need them most. Our project aims to alter this status quo by pioneering a co-designed, practice-based curriculum that emerges directly from the needs and innovations of the Global South.

About the Course: The short course, spanning over 6 weeks, is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of climate change and its socio-economic impacts, with a focus on developing essential green skills for professionals willing to work with climate adaptation in the Global South. The students will gain knowledge and practical experience through active and interactive learning, equipping them to design and implement effective, context-specific climate solutions by addressing unique challenges and opportunities for climate action in vulnerable countries with multi-faceted challenges. The course will feature experts and leading practitioners in the field, providing insights into real-world challenges and solutions. Additionally, field visits to marginalized communities will allow participants to interact directly with those most affected by climate change and gain knowledge on local adaptation strategies and community resilience. By developing professional networks with communities, experts and organizations, the course aims to enhance participants' capacity to collaborate and lead in climate action initiatives. These experiences will not only enhance the participants' skills but also build valuable connections that can support their career growth. The course is ideal for new graduate students and early-career professionals interested in working with climate change and work on effective climate solutions and adaptation at the community level.

About the Role: The course coordinator will be responsible for the overall management and delivery of the 6-week course, with a structured and pre-planned curriculum developed by the project team. With interactive methodologies, the instructor will act as the central figure in coordinating and executing the course with guest lecturers, speakers, and field work, while fostering collaboration among academic partners, participants, and practitioners. The coordinator will also be responsible for facilitating online and in-class discussions, and work closely with assessments of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure smooth execution of the course using diverse interactive methodologies - i.e. role-playing, mock panels, guided discussions, mapping exercises, etc.
  2. Deliver facilitation for course sessions on climate change adaptation.
  3. Coordinate with the experts, practitioners, and guest lecturers to ensure high-quality content and engagement according to the course guidelines.
  4. Organize and manage course logistics, including arranging field visits, and overseeing virtual or in-person classrooms.
  5. Ensure all the course contents are aligned with the goals of the projects and meet the academic standards.
  6. Act as the primary point of contact for course participants, addressing inquiries and providing guidance to ensure a positive learning experience.
  7. Evaluate student performance and assess the course's effectiveness, participant satisfaction, and learning outcomes.
  8. Incorporate participant feedback and insights to recommend and implement improvements to the course during its piloting phase.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum Master’s in Development Studies, Environment Science, Disaster Management, Education, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience in relevant climate change fields (Higher Education, Research, Development organizations, etc.)
  • Strong facilitation skills to engage students, guest speakers, and community stakeholders - in person and online
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, MS Office and basic internet tools
